Location Recce

We have produced a location recce to determine what setting is most suitable for shooting. The purpose is to view each location and establish the advantages and disadvantages. In our main task we have two possible locations to choose from. The opening sequence will show the ninja standing in front of a tree, therefore it would be ideal to find a location were we have open space, high key lighting and with minimal noise. Before filming we visited each location to see which one would best fit our opening sequence.

First idea

The first idea of the location was a tree which is set just in front of the main gate. In the opening sequence the ninja would stand in front of this tree.

Advantages-
A key advantage of this setting is the background. In this sequence we wanted somewhere that looks open and urban. In addition, the lighting is high key which fits well with our opening sequence.

Disadvantage-
The setting is just outside the main gate so we have limited control of stopping people walking past. People walking past will effect the narrative and atmosphere of the opening sequence. Sound is another factor we have to consider when selecting a location. This setting is near classrooms which means the noise of crowds walking past and the school bell ringing may interfere with filming. With the busy background the ninja will not stand out as much in the shot.

Second idea

The second location is set at the back of the school on the field which is near the sports facilities. The ninja would also stand in front of this tree in the opening sequence.

Advantage-
This particular location is mostly isolated away from class rooms and main gates so the noise will be minimal and there will be no outsiders walking past. There is a vast amount of open space and high key lighting which fits in with our requirement we need to carry out this opening sequence.

Disadvantage-
The first setting had a more suitable background for our opening sequence. This setting is more isolated and simplistic with only houses and a fence in the background. A following disadvantage is that during filming the noise level may increase due to the setting being near sports facilities.

Risk assessment-
For these particular two settings they are both outside which could propose some risks. Due to it being filmed outside the weather could possibly rain. If it rains on the day of filming we could potentially damage expensive technical equipment. To overcome this issue we will have to check the weather beforehand to make sure there is no rain.

Changing room
The opening sequence begins with a close up shot of a black ninja mask hanging on a peg, which can be filmed in the changing rooms. As the sequence progresses there is panning shots of posters, calenders and various other details that will also be shot in the changing rooms. There would have to be no one else is in the changing rooms to ensure that there will be no noise while filming.

Permission
The locations we have selected all require permission from teachers. Permission for the changing rooms may be quite difficult because people are in and out of the changing rooms everyday. So it is vital that we ask days before we start filming so we face no problems on the day we do the opening sequence.
